Have you explored the variety that spindles around the world have to offer? Most spinners are at least familiar with the basic top and bottom whorl drop spindle, but many have not discovered the oddly shaped Scottish dealgan, the dual armed Turkish, or the humble Peruvian. These spindles can be intimidating to try or may go undiscovered by even the most avid spindle enthusiast. In this workshop, students will be introduced to several types along with their history and variations among them along with having the opportunity to try their hand at giving them a spin!

Skills Required:

Students must be able to spin a single yarn on any spinning tool.

Bring to Class:

  • If you have a Turkish, Dealgan, or Peruvian spindle, please bring your own so you can try it with guidance.

Homework (to be completed prior to class):
