Fractal spinning is a popular technique that results in a subtle self-striping yarn. It is one of the many ways to control color and create dynamic yarn for knitting, crocheting, and weaving. To start, we’ll take a look at two different approaches to fractal spinning: a basic 2-ply, as well as a 3-ply. Then we’ll choose one method to spin during the session. Finally, we’ll discuss different applications for fractal yarns.

Skills Required:

  • Students must know how to spin a continuous singles yarn and how to ply.

Bring to Class:

  • Spinning wheel in working order with an empty bobbin, or spindle
  • Pen and paper for note-taking
  • 3 to 4 ounces of combed top, minimum of 2 colors
