In this class, participants will learn basic one-color and two-color brioche. We will go over basic terminology, abbreviations, symbols, yarn choices, different ways that designers use to write patterns, and how to understand a simple brioche pattern. Participants will learn by working with a garter stitch swatch that will transition into one-color brioche and two-color brioche. In addition, the instructor will share tips and tricks to demystify the complexity of brioche and tackle brioche projects successfully.

Skills Required:

Students must know how to cast on, knit, and purl.

Bring to Class:

  • Two skeins of wool worsted yarn (preferably non-superwash wool) in color cream/off white and brown. Each skein should weigh between 25-50g. Please don’t plan on using variegated yarns, slippery yarns, or very dark shades of brown as it will make it difficult to see the colors and slip the stitches.
  • A 16- or 24-inch circular needle in size US#7, or long double pointed US#7 needles.

Homework (to be completed prior to class):

Cast on 21 stitches with the cream/off white color using any cast on method. Knit a garter stitch swatch of approximately 2 inches before the class starts.
