We will use color theory and creativity to explore different ways to spin combed top braids. Methods include gradient spinning, combination drafting, and also spinning multiple braids in one project. The goal is to help students gain confidence in spinning braids of varying colors and thinking outside the box to get a desired outcome for their handspun yarn.

Skills Required:

  • Students must know how to spin a continuous single and ply two or more strands together.

Bring to Class:

  • Bring a working spinning wheel, 3 regular-size empty bobbins, and lazy kate or equivalent for plying.
  • Optional: Kit fee can be waived if you bring a multicolored-dyed combed top braid that you’d like to spin during the session.
