Let’s take shawls beyond the triangle! We will experiment with different shawl shapes by knitting several mini shawl swatches. We will also discuss placing lace patterns within these shawl shapes and how to add other common shawl elements like borders and decorative bind offs as we take things in new directions.

Skills Required:

  • Students must have basic knitting skills: knit and purl, cast on and bind off, increase and decrease
  • Students should have beginner lace skills and be able to read from a pattern
  • Ability to work from a chart is very helpful, but not a requirement

Bring to Class:

  • 40–50 yards of smooth, light-colored worsted weight yarn
  • US 6/4mm or 7/4.5mm knitting needles (straights or circulars are ok; gauge is not critical for swatches)
  • Knitting notions (tapestry needle, stitch markers, small scissors, etc.)
  • Pen or pencil

Homework (to be completed prior to class):
